Mesa's Toy Box

Story

Mesa can be first be encountered upon entering the kitchen after getting Iberico's outfit and scaring away the mouse blocking the entrance. She is first seen plotting in an entry cutscene outside of Chibi-Robo's view. In the first direct interaction between her and Chibi-Robo, Mesa attempts to eat him. Due to being made of metal, trying to eat Chibi-Robo does her no good, similarly to another character from a different game. For this, Mesa "gifts" Chibi-Robo a diving suit by dumping it into the water.

After progressing in the game past the ghost blocking Chibi-Robo's way by giving away 500 greed, Chibi-Robo can enter Keith's room. Dipping a green tomato from the garden in Habanero's hot sauce creates a spicy red tomato. This can be given to Mesa, who will flail around from the spice, making it possible for Chibi-Robo to drain the sink, watch her get sucked in, and snatch the Diver Suit which will be used to freely travel in the house's pipes without taking damage.

Following the incident, Mesa can be found in the shallow pool of water in Keith's room. A cutscene between her and Habanero plays, Telly remarking him and Chibi-Robo being "third wheels." After a while, when Habanero's mask is found in the drain, Chibi-Robo goes to Mesa for help in retrieving it. She initially appears to dislike the idea, but goes to find it in secret. Once found in the drain, she chews through the gate and loses her teeth, and a scene featuring a flashback to Habanero saving Mesa from land is played.

After returning the mask, Habanero notices something sharp inside, not realizing it's a fang. Mesa and Habanero have a heart-to-heart about her loss of teeth and his joy for getting the mask back. After time passes, Habanero goes to rest, and Mesa hints at showing affection for Habanero, who is too dense to understand. Though it's never particularly clear if it's platonic or romantic feelings, Mesa goes on to go out of her way to witness Habanero's later comeback.

The next half-day, Mesa is stuck after being thrown in the toilet by Keith for her lack of fangs. Chibi-Robo and Telly aren't able to free her, so Mesa prompts the robotic duo to get "Dumbanero" from Keith's room. Habanero eventually finds her, after searching every other room first, using all his strength to push Mesa down into the pipes with a jumping start, only to get stuck in her place. Chibi-Robo must flush him down by climbing the flush chain, triggering a cutscene of Habanero and Mesa in the pipes. He catches her mourning her lost teeth, realizing she lost them for his sake. Habanero offering Mesa "anything" to pay her back, she makes her demand of Habanero to get back the Championship in the Casino's fighting ring. Mesa shows up for the eventual fight to cheer on Habanero, denying it as being such. After reminding Habanero of his special move, he uses it to win the fight after his other moves don't work. Mesa is pulled into the ring with Habanero, Chibi-Robo and Telly for a group photo in celebration.

This completes the storyline of them, and pictures of both are displayed in the Hallway.

Chibi-Robo can make Mesa regrow her teeth after completing their story by playing the guitar you get with Ketchup's suit. From then on, bright red tomatoes may be fed to her for Happy Points.

Trivia

  • Mesa is based on a great white shark or a megalodon in appearance.
  • Although she claims she can regenerate new teeth at will, she appears unable to actually do so. The claim stems from real sharks having the ability, going through thousands of teeth in a lifetime.
