Chibi-Robo! Wiki:Protected page

Administrators can protect pages that contain important information, or are existing or likely targets for vandalism. There are different levels of protection that may be used, and the protection may be limited to certain actions, such as editing, moving, deleting, or creating a page. Protecting a page is meant to be a last resort; the majority of pages on the wiki should remain publicly editable.

Uses

Indefinite protection is used for:

  • Protecting high-traffic pages which are likely targets for vandals, such as the Main Page.
  • Maintaining the integrity of the site's logo and favicon.
  • Maintaining the integrity of key copyright and license pages.
  • Protecting the interface and system messages in the MediaWiki namespace (these are protected automatically).

Temporary protection is used for:

  • Enforcing a cool down period to stop an edit war, upon request.
  • Protecting a page or image that has been a recent target of persistent vandalism or persistent edits by a banned user.

Rules

  1. Do not protect pages unnecessarily; protecting a page in the main article space should be done as a last resort.
  2. Do not protect a page you are involved in an edit dispute over. Admin powers are not editor privileges - admins should only act as servants to the user community at large.
  3. Protection should last only as long as necessary. Staff members should regularly review pages with long or indefinite protection to see if protection is still warranted.
  4. Talk pages and user talk pages should not be protected except in extreme circumstances.
  5. The protection of a page on any particular version is not meant to express support for that version. Users wishing to make productive edits to a protected page should contact a staff member to make the edit on their behalf.
