A Free Ranger, as seen in the Japanese version of Chibi-Robo! Plug into Adventure!

The Free Rangers are an army of small plastic egg soldiers originating from Chibi-Robo! Plug into Adventure!. They usually stay in the foyer, doing training with their leader, Sarge. They listen to his orders obediently, though occasionally complaining about it.

Appearance

Space Scrambler pilots Fairbanks and Bama in New Play Control! Chibi-Robo! Plug into Adventure!

Most of the Free Rangers look to be identical, later on changing into different outfits. All Free Rangers, except Sarge, are orange in color and have a wide smile on their faces. They wear green camo gear , including a helmet that sports the Free Ranger's symbol on the top. They carry toy guns in their right hands.

In the localized version of Chibi-Robo! Plug into Adventure!, the Free Rangers were given a small round nose, and their guns were changed to appear wooden.

In the New Play Control version, the Free Rangers were given white gloves, and lose their green sleeves.

The Space Scrambler pilots gain a more futuristic look, with blue suits and white helmets with visors. Their guns change to look more like a sci-fi laser gun.

Vegas, Hot Rod egg.

The pirate eggs have an outfit similar to Captain Plankbeard's, a black and white shirt with a blue jacket, purple pants, a belt with a skull, and a red pirate hat. They also have flintlock pistols instead of a normal gun.

Vegas gets a much more casual look, with a pompadour and sunglasses. His shirt has a zipper, and blue, white, and red stripes.

Storyline

The Free Rangers start out in the foyer, being commanded to attack Chibi-Robo by their leader, Sarge. Once they realize he's a friend, they are found standing in front of the stairs, waiting for roll call. Chibi-Robo must stand in place of the missing Free Ranger so they can start their training.

After a certain point in the game, some of them go AWOL and leave the Free Rangers for their own paths in life. The ones that stay continue their training in order to defeat the family dog, Tao, since he had kidnapped the smallest Free Ranger, Memphis. During the mission to stop Tao, the other Free Rangers come back to help. Once Memphis is rescued, they realize Tao isn't bad, teaching everyone a lesson about friendship and respect.

A single Free Ranger, Tampa, not associated with the original Free Rangers, is seen in Chibi-Robo! Park Patrol.

3 of the original Free Rangers return in Okaeri! Chibi-Robo! Happy Richie Ōsōji! Sarge, and two others, though it can be inferred that they are Tex and Frisco. Together they search for treasure under the kitchen floor.

Free Rangers

There are 21 Free Rangers in Chibi-Robo! Plug into Adventure! and 1 in Chibi-Robo! Park Patrol.

Sarge - The leader of the Free Rangers.

Private Memphis - The smallest Free Ranger, who is close friends with Sarge. He gets kidnapped by Tao, and later on rescued by the others.

Tex and Frisco seem to be in some sort of leadership roles, usually standing in the front of the groups or next to Sarge.

The other normal Free Rangers are Jersey, Denver, Nawlins, Fargo, Orlando, Detroit, Frisco, Oregon, Montana, Tucson, and Houston

Tampa- The Free Ranger that appears in Chibi-Robo! Park Patrol. He was separated from his platoon, and is alone. He decides to give up being a soldier in favor of doing construction work.

AWOL Free Rangers:

7 of the original Free Rangers separate themselves from the group to do something of their own.

4 of them become pirates, joining up with Captain Plankbeard (Cincy, Idaho, Macon, and Maui)

2 become pilots of the Space Scrambler in the foyer (Fairbanks and Bama)

Vegas drives the Hot Rod upstairs, acting more cool and laid back.

Trivia

  • All Free Rangers excluding Sarge are named after real locations.
  • The Free Rangers' name is a pun on free-range eggs, a term used to describe eggs that were laid by birds who were allowed to be outdoors.
